Wisdom's album Judas was released in September last year
in the States and in Japan and when now signed to the label NoiseArt
Records, the album will get a worldwide release. This also marks the
first album with new vocalist Gábor Nagy and drummer Balázs
Ágota.
Do someone remember what power metal sounded like a decade
ago or so? If not, listen to this album to freshen your memory. Fast?
Yes. Heavy? Not really. Catchy? Yes. Goofy? A bit. All the essential
ingredients of this genre are present. This is power metal with some
classic guitar solos and I wonder if there still is a market for this
genre. Most bands have abandoned it and are sometimes mocked for their
past efforts.
Even if this quintet hails from Hungary, the first time
I heard this record, I could swear they were from Italy. They've got
that significant Italian power metal approach, with their typical choruses,
choirs, rhythms and melodies. The lead singer is also of course half
neutered and just a perfect match for this type of music, even if he
doesn't sound like a fullblown eunuch though. Speaking about singers.
Therion's Mats Levén makes a contribution on the title track,
functioning as the voice of the character Judas. More cool than important
for the outcome of that song, I would say.
For the regular metal fan, this is a decent album without
any major dips, but sometimes also kind of plain and a bit monotonous.
If you're a confirmed power metal freak to the early 2000's, I say let's
go for it, as this would suit you to one hundred percent.
