Scarve - Irradiant
![]() Scarve is a French death metal act, something that at least to me is not that common but something that is nice to see. Scarve is also one of those bands that has two vocalists sharing the singing, divided into growls and clean vocals, and that is something that I appreciate since it brings more depth to their music and they're able to make their death metal more varied. The type of music that you get from Scarve is progressive death metal with one foot reaching out towards Meshuggah with complex rhythms and various shifting in tempo, something you could call technical death metal, while the other foot is reaching towards the melodic death such as Darkane. Darkane becomes a very close comparison, not least with the shared vocals between growls and clean singing and the many thrashing elements and the anger mixed up with melodies. I was forced to listen to Irradiant many times before it could sink in and I would be able to give it a fair judgement. It is easy to dismiss this band if you don't give it a chance and give the album a good penetration before coming to any final conclusion, there is much beneath the surface that at first just sounded like noise and anger, but there is more than that with Scarve. In all it is a good a rich album with lots of death metal
flavours , but they still have a few miles to go before they can match
up with the bigger and better bands in this genre but they are good
on their way, as for now it is good but with much left to improve.
