I've had "Inundate" in my possession for quite
a while but it has taken this long for me to drag my ass out of the
wagon so to speak and write about it. In one way I'm quite happy that
I took the time to really imbibe the album because it really is treacherously
simple on the surface - but man does it grow on you! Infused with plenty
of tasty details it really showcases Sectu's status as non-beginners.
If you are prone to riff-analysis, I'm guessing that you will thoroughly
enjoy dissecting the riffs on this record as it is packed to the brim
by kick-ass dittos.
I can honestly say that I'm very happy to hear that the
production is so totally well suited to the music that one is able to
hear every little thing that stingbenders Stefan Lundgren and Anders
Ericsson do. The drums are executed well by drummer Calle Bäckström
who has that rare quality that's called playing for the song - without
compromising with playing some deftly technical shit as well. In spite
of playing really technical death metal, Sectu manages really well in
stirring up a groove as in the songs Unseeing Divine and Incantation
Of The Lost Continent that to me are the two strongest songs on the
album.
In fact the entire record is a solid statement of quality
- the only redundant song to me is Ceremonial March in which the band
gets too pretentious and takes a left turn into artyland, but as a whole
Inundate is a very good album from a very talented band. It's going
to be very interesting in following the band in the future.
