I haven't spent much time listening to Halestorm before
I decided to take on the new effort Into The Wild Life. This is the
band's third full length record and I thought that I would eventually
really check out one of its installments and to me, this outfit's music
in some way chiefly comes out as both untamed and distinct at the same
time. It also comprises a very modern touch with kind of computerized
instruments included. They occasionally also show some tendencies of
being a metal act, but make no mistake, this record is predominantly
a rock music experience with a few intense moments involved.
The record's disadvantage is definitely that the musical
outcome of the verses in an overall perspective isn't anywhere close
to the quality of the choruses. They seem rather effortless and flavorless
in comparison and even if Lzzy Hale's cheeky, raspy and nice vocal performance
is able to bring some character to them, it isn't until her louder and
energetic vocals explode in the choruses that this album catches my
attention. Without her presence these choruses would definitely not
come out as accurate and striking as they do either, since the keystones
to a very large extent are built on her empathy and her immersive tone.
To put a few killers on the album and having the major
part of the rest of the material at a decent level isn't really enough
to convince me of a supposed greatness. Songs like Scream, I Am The
Fire and The Reckoning are really awesome, whilst a number of songs
late on the album, like Apocalyptic and I Like It Heavy seem tremendously
washed-out and I believe that if they had offered a few songs less on
this record, it would absolutely have made it into a more solid experience.
In the end a pretty good effort, although it has its valleys and pits
to place my final decision to a satisfactory rating of 6 chalices.
