The polish one man army Hellveto's latest release In The
Glory Of Heroes could just as well be called an orgy in melancholy and
misery. In The Glory Of Heroes, released by Pulverised Records, is a
taste of pagan black metal with all the following ingredients. Long
songs with sections of quite monotone riffing and arrangements together
with clean acoustic passages.
I don't know where to start but I'll try, Hellveto is
a one man band founded and engineered by L.O.N. By reading the impressive
release catalogue from the band I guess that the man behind the mystic
initials or alias or whatever must have been quite busy doing demos,
promos and albums since the start in 1995. Sad is the fact that you
don't really hear it on In The Glory Of Heroes.
The best thing about this album are the great arrangements
with acoustic parts, but I don't bow to the dark one and buy albums
dedicated to him for some acoustic well sounding guitars. I seek a feeling
of falling into the fiery flames of hell or something else appropriate
and connected to the music, but when I listen to Hellveto I don't feel
anything. Lack of intensity, aggression and something that at least
could be somewhere near a rebellion makes this album quite harmless.
The production is bad with a sound that are way off my
taste. I buy the concept of primitive and raw black metal but unfortunately
In The Glory Of Heroes is neither of it. The vocals do sometimes sound
ok and convincing in its raspy agony but the music are way too mediocre
for my taste. Perhaps this album will appeal to some fans of Bathory,
Drudkh or Xasthur but only temporarily.
