The German sextet Words Of Farewell's debut album Immersion is about to hit the shelves and the download sites. Guitarist Henrik Tschierschky has since the recording process in 2010 joined this young and upcoming band.

When it comes to genres, it's almost always hard to put your finger on which exact style to choose and this album is marketed as progressive/melodic death metal, but in my opinion it could be heavy metal with growling vocals and with progressive as well as melodic death metal elements, just depending on where to draw the line through this maze of genres.

Many of the songs sounds pretty much the same. It's heavy and it's dark. The harmony/lead guitar and the keyboard are prominent through all songs, backed up with double bass drums. The guitar play is what gets me stuck to this release, as it's very guitar based with great licks and solos. Fortunately clean vocals in the choruses are absent, as I'm so tired of growling death metal verses followed by a clean sung chorus; just to please the masses and to get the attention from people that generally don't listen to this kind of music.

This band's got what it takes and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they would hit a bit bigger stages some day, as their music is easily digested for both fans of heavy and death metal. No hit material, but a good start to their career.
