Mystic Prophecy's vocalist R.D. Liapakis has again gathered
his, in the community of heavy music, pretty well-known friends to form
the lineup of Devil's Train for its second album. I remember that I
quickly checked out the band's first effort, released in early 2012,
and from what I can recall of that moment, it left me without any impressions
at all, which naturally is quite obvious if you think of it, because
otherwise I would definitely have at least some scattered memories of
the band's music.
Devil's Train pretty much plays a modern and kind of groovy
version of 70's and 80's hard rock with quite evident influences of
bluesy elements. This put all together into an album named II comes
out in a way that my audio receptors can't really fancy. I believe that
the given outcome absolutely has a structural point which I personally
can't find really suitable, in order to make the music form a thriving
feeling that can root deep within.
The album's biggest disadvantage as far as I'm concerned
is definitely the lack of potent and effective songwriting, whereas
I think that the songs' captivating factor really can't reach to a point
where I can find the result more than decent. There is absolutely nothing
wrong with the actual performance, but almost every time the songs start
to have some potential, they aren't able to maintain its power and persistence.
It's indeed not a bad effort in total, but it still doesn't have the
capacity to enchant me.
