The Finnish wizard's from Lohja are back to swing their axe of Doom. II: Crush The Insects is the title on the Reverend Bizarre second full length album released through Spikefarm Records. II: Crush The Insects takes over where the debut In The Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend ended. Reverend Bizarre might be the link that have been missing since the glory days of doom, since it's with seldom heard passion and burning devotion that they carry on the vibes that bands such as Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Pentagram and St. Vitus once created.

The production seems to be from another timeline with incredibly good soundings from each instrument. It sounds very analog and honest which allows the drums and bass lines to push the heavy machinery slowly forward. All this accompanied with excellent sound on guitar and some really good vocals from Magister Albert. Even though this is perhaps the slowest way to perform and play music in, Reverend Bizarre manage to make melodies that stitch to the head. Like in the third song, Cromwell - perhaps the catchiest one on II: Crush The Insects. Otherwise the material that is forged from the fires of Mount Doom is very melancholy and free from any possible happy vibes. Very slow and what's more important: it's dark and gloomy. The fourth track Slave Of Satan is perhaps the best example of this fact. So slow that I imagine that it must be difficulties to even perform this one live. It hapens way too often that musical brilliance and skills are measured in how fast it goes and with how many technical difficulties that can be handled on the instrument. This is musical craftsmanship in another form; you simply just got to have the feelings and the passion to do this kind of material and music just and fair.

When trying to summon II: Crush The Insects and making a fair judgement, it would be easy to give this one a really high score, but concidering the song length and the fact that we still must see the whole album as a product, I wont sail away in total ecstasy. The songs are sometimes way too long. Of course doom music presents long songs by tradition, but some times it's not necessary I think. Even though the material is good, you simply don't have to make a ten-minute song out of it. This is the one thing that brings down the grade on II: Crush The Insects. Apart from that, Reverend Bizarre have managed to create a great album that will last for a very long time in my stereo.
