Depth boosting thrash metal, that is how Reckless Tide comments on their sound. Helleraser is the second album from this band that won the Wacken Metal Battle in 2004 and earned themselves a spot at the Wacken Open Air festival. Reckless Tide was formed in Hannover, Germany in 2000 and by early 2005, they released their debut album Repent Or Seal Your Fate.

Reckless Tide deliver stomping straight forward thrash with lots of melodic hooks and I doubt that they will deny that Annihilator is a big inspiration to them. The sound and song structure does not differ too much from Jeff Waters's band. Reckless Tide dive immediately in to the thrashing with the opening track, Vicious Circle, while they deliver some fat sounding riffs in The Preacher which has a good thrash groove going. The fiery riffing from the guitars come out with a clean and sharp sound, yet they are at the same time very aggressive and heavy and they remind a lot of Exodus and mentioned Annihilator. And concerning this I should perhaps mention that Jeff Waters appears as a guest on the album, as does Hendrik Bache from Dew Scented.

Shared vocals is something that Reckless Tide master well between Andrew Troth and Kjell Hallgreen, the diversity with growls, shouts, clean and melodic vocals come out good and break their music that otherwise could have risked being monotonous. There is no doubt that this is good and well-performed thrash that Reckless Tide deliver, and the general level is good on Helleraser. Although it tends to sound a little too much of the same after a while and a song like Kleemähendeäbte (try to pronounce that in the first attempt) should not have left the rehearsal room. I bet they had a tons of laughter recording it but it is silly and their attempt to be funny does not fit in.
