British band Furyon's debut album was self released in
2010 and is now released on a major label by Frontiers Records.
The opener and also the best song on hard rock album Gravitas
is Disappear Again, which is a wonderful piece of work with its heavy
guitar riffs during the verses, a classic guitar solo and a striking
chorus that touches me instantly.
However, from song number two it gets too plain and may
work as background music at your daytime jobs. A couple of the songs
are in fact good or at least have some good parts, but I grow tired
of them real fast. This record has been praised by many magazines when
originally released, but I will not follow their path. I've listened
to the album at least a dozen times and I never get that kick, as the
major part of the songs don't stick at all.
Most of the album is well played with elements from the
seventies until now. You can find hard rock, progressive and melodic
stuff, some stoner rock and even some heavy metal parts. With this I
would want to love this album, but instead I get bored and find myself
daydreaming when listening to it.
It feels like the songs are made to be radio friendly
with one big smashing hit and that's not good enough for me. I wouldn't
be surprised at all though if this record reach decent sales figures,
if people hear the opening song first.
