"I'm gonna fucking rape your soul!"
With these carefully picked words, Belgian death metallers
in Aborted kick off their seventh full-length album, Global Flatline.
The truth actually isn't very far from that initial statement, which
is something that should be considered positive in death metal.
What I really like about this album is how well constructed
it feels. Much of the death metal that's being released nowadays is
very one-dimensional but there is an unusual balance here - the brutality,
the melodies and the riffs all stand out without overpowering each other.
The production works well, with both power and clarity during the heavier
parts, as well as during the slower and more melodic parts.
There are a lot of grindcore elements, as well, which
makes for a pretty intense musical experience. With this said, 44 minutes
might perhaps be a little long for an album of this calibre and brutality.
All in all, this is a really good piece of brutal music that should
open up more people's eyes to Aborted.
