X-Drive is a new project lead by guitarist and songwriter
Jeremy Brunner. By his side, he has gathered a few well-known faces
to complete the lineup. The debut album Get Your Rock On generally shows
more or less standardized and common American hard rock with roots originating
in the eighties, but naturally with a fresh and contemporary touch to
fit today's designs and requirements.
The record mainly comprises rock and hard rock songs in
various forms, mixed with a few ballads to bring some variation in its
overall appearance. The lion's share of the performance of this release
is actually pretty all right and rather satisfactory. A few impressive
and cool guitar parts engender some excitement and also occasional curiosity
in search for more. The songs generally also have a good swing with
a solid groove on top and when all these things come together, there
should be no way to stop this record's success, one might think.
But unfortunately the lack of really good songs is highly
evident and as you already know, that's definitely the core factor in
terms of whether you find an album inviting or not. With this at hand,
it surely becomes difficult to like or enjoy what's presented at the
end of the day. I have indeed made several attempts to take this one
to my heart and I nearly made it a real challenge between me and the
disc. Yet with each and every spin, my thoughts end up with a kind of
similar answer, which more or less is that I have a hard time to find
something that really has made an impact or something that is anywhere
near an awesome ride.
