Fires Of Babylon is on paper a dream come true for every
fan of classic U.S. Metal! With a line-up such as Rob Rock (Rob Rock,
ex-Impellitteri etc.), Lou St. Paul (Winters Bane), Kelly Conlon (ex-Death
etc.) and Bob Falzano (Shatter Messiah) the expectations on this disc
takes a giant leap to the sky. The band was put together when the record
label asked Lou St. Paul to record a classic riff based heavy metal
album with handpicked musicians. At least he did a great job finding
the right persons for the job
However, I'm sad to say that the album is a huge disappointment.
Fires Of Bablyon sound quite as expected but I really wonder how these
poor songs made it all the way to be a high priority release. This is
nothing but a never ending stream of uninspired riffs, boring melodies
and an awful production. Rob Rock is normally a great singer but the
lousy compositions have affected his voice in a bad way. I'm also sick
of his reusing of the same lyrics over and over. I usually have nothing
against the displaying of religious beliefs in the lyrical themes but
I have heard phrases like "Lord of lords, king of kings" etc.
a thousand times by now. How about a bit variation in that area?
Falling To Pieces and Going Through Changes are the only
songs on this album that catches my interest in some way. Otherwise
I had to force myself not to push the skip button when listening. Fires
Of Babylon is nothing but a big disappointment and this effort should
have stayed as a great idea until much better songs were written.
