Remember the once so glorious british grind inquistadores
Napalm Death? I've often wondered if that path of the death metal genre
got lost somewhere between Harmony Corruption and the Utopia Banished
album. The kind of death that flirted with disaster and wielded equal
parts of grind, crust and noise, the really dirty disharmonial violence.
I guess that a band like Vomitory and now also Quest For Aidance have
picked up some of these crackled pieces and fragments from an era once
so interesting.
Swedish Quest For Aidance´s debut, Fallen Man Collection,
is a creation of eight songs that gives us a total running time somewhere
near ten minutes. Awesome. Well, it aint near the assault that Sore
Throat once managed to produce, but it feels once again fresh to listen
to intensive songs that ends after one and a half minute. Quest For
Aidance deliver quite brutal and raw death metal with loads of groove
and heavy beats. Not perfection but there is something about Fallen
Man Collection that appeals to me. The music feels very simpel, almost
primitive at a first listening but after a while it becomes obvious
that there are a lot of work and thoughts put into this musical meltdown.
The ugly vocals from Christian Älvestam sound like
a reincarnation of guttural anguish of the late eighties or early nineties.
All in all, I think that Quest For Aidance feels like a band with great
potential. The material points in the right direction, so to speak,
and I'm looking forward to hear more from theese guys as they seem to
know what they're doing. Cool and ugly death metal that are materialized
in songs like Distant World Arrival, Man Is The Harvest and the extremely
good Yield.
Fallen Man Collection is like a fresh wind that leaves
you with a fragrance of death.
