The international band Satyrian isn't really the newcomers as they seem to be. When the recordings for Eternitas began in 2002 the band operated under the moniker Danse Macabre, a band that already had two albums in their discography. Due to big changes in the vocal department they started in 2004 using their new name Satyrian and completed the recordings for Eternitas at the same time. In the autumn of 2005 their old record company agreed on the band's request to transfer this album and to sign a new deal with Lion Music.

The music on Eternitas is quite varied gothic rock/metal in the vein of a band like Sirenia. Not as heavy and certainly not as good as Sirenia but the comparison works as guidance for the musical direction. Satyrian is in possession of three vocalists in the line-up which is quite unusual and grants them big possibilities in writing varied songs. The vocalists are however nothing special and they all seem to lack confidence and originality. The arrangements are impeccable though and the song writing solid without reaching all the way. Better melody lines and hooks could have changed it all that but as it is now only the fast paced Invictus really gets me going. Bridge Of Death must also be mentioned with its medieval sound that sticks out in a positive way.

Satyrian has all the possibilities in becoming a quite pleasant contribution to the gothic genre. They have some work left though and I would recommend them to concentrate on improving the song writing, the vocals and the production. Eternitas is absolutely not bad, but the record is from now on doomed to collect dust in my record shelf.
