Third album from Germany's seven men strong pagan/folk
metal outfit Wolfchant. Songwriting diversity isn't this band's strongest
sign when seeing through the whole record. Each song is pretty diverse
within themselves, but most songs are somewhat resemblant with epic
hymns and massive chants.
Furthermore it's fast drums on and off and an explosive
guitarplay with neat solos and almost constant harmony licks. The lyrics
are both in English and in German and the two vocalists sing alternately
with rapid changes back and forth and also together. The dark and demonic
vocals are pretty good, but huge parts of the clean vocals are more
spoken than sung and that's nothing I prefer.
The songs are rather captivating, but after every time
I've listened to the full album, which is somewhere around fifteen times,
I'm still standing on square one, because the songs are too similar.
Like every other time I listen to Embraced By Fire, the closer I get
to the end, the monotonous approach makes me like this release the less,
even though the last songs are just as good as the first half.
Still, this is a rather good effort from the chanting
horde that catches a well deserved 6 chalices. It just takes a beautiful
day and a massive share of commitment and dedication to listen to the
forty-three minutes of this record from start to finish.
