I haven't heard Supreme Majesty since their debut Tales Of A Tragic Kingdom (2001) and even though they have only released one album in-between that one and their new album Elements Of Creation, there have been some changes within the band. And all for the good as it seems as their unique sound is still intact but now it is so much more elaborated, and by the voice of Joakim Olsson you got another way of telling which band you are listening to, and also he has improved his already good voice since then.

It is less of the power metal that could be heard on the debut even if there are much of those traces left. Supreme Majesty in 2005 feels like a pretty healthy mixture of the hard rock from early Europe as I get the same vibe as from listening to them, and furthermore the same playfulness is found within the music. With the guitars there isn't that much of John Norum but the more of Yngwie Malmsteen instead, and not those parts with hyper speed technical playing but more with the leads and harmonies there is a similar sound. Also much of the song structures and melodies seem to be influenced by Malmsteen's early days. Both of the first hold very much of these traces even though Supreme Majesty has a sound of their own that could be found on their debut that they still hold intact that doesn't make them sounds as copy-cats but rather gives them a unique sound, a strength not to be overlooked.

Dance Of The Elements and King of Warriors are on the other hand some really great power metal that can be traced to the melodic masters in Sonata Arctica. The melodies in Dance Of The Elements, not least in the chorus make it a very powerful track whilst the speed as well as the melodies in King Of Warriors really get you going and satisfy your power metal needs. The guys in Supreme Majesty show that they are good musicians at more than one occasion but in the instrumental track that goes in the style of Malmsteen meets Stratovarius they really get to show off.

Elements Of Creation comes out as a really good album and might just be the album that puts Supreme Majesty on the map. An album well worth to check out if you like melodic metal with a touch of neo-classical influences as well as power metal.
