Nightwish. Children Of Bodom. Ensiferum. Amorphis. These
are just a handful of successful Finnish bands that Spinefarm Records
have taken under their wings during the years. Which means that the
newcomers in Naildown have quite a lot to live up to. Alas, Dreamcrusher
turns to out to be nothing else than a severe dud.
Naildown borrows from left to right on their debut album,
mostly from Children Of Bodom. Nothing wrong with that, but the result
lack both character and bite, and is something of the most pointless
I've had the bad luck to listen to in a long time. The title track is
a good example of how tame this release is. For a demo band this would
have been perfectly acceptable, but I had hoped that Spinefarm had higher
demands than to sign a band that write songs that sound like something
Fear Factory would have rejected ten years ago.
Judgement Ride is the only song on the album that shows
intentions, and it's also the only one with a chorus that is memorable
enough to last in your mind after the record has stopped spinning. That
is of course way too little when the rest is nothing more than what
the title of track three is called. Something that sums up this release
pretty well.
"Dreams will be crushed", states the homepage.
Oh yes, unfortunately for all concerned, those dreams are probably Spinefarm's
wishes that Naildown will be another profitable band in their stable.
