When "Edge Of The Earth" came out four years
ago, I must say I enjoyed it for the most part, but thought that the
album was too long and repetitive for me giving it any higher praise
than I did.
Now we write 2015 and Sylosis are back with a new record,
"Dormant Heart". Either it's me or the band that has changed
because this is a fine and enjoyable record. Sylosis hasn't cut down
on duration compared to previous records - "Dormant Heart"
clocks in at just under an hour - and the formula is basically the same:
a mix of metalcore, thrash and progressive elements. But the songs!
The first quintet of songs is stunningly good and aside from a few bits
that seem to be on autopilot (I'm thinking mainly of Leech and Servitude)
all the songs are solid.
Throughout I am enjoying the guitar playing - the riffs
are nailed with accuracy and the solos are not just only good - often
they're the factor that raises the songs to the next level of excellency.
If you're a fan of Sylosis from before I'm guessing that
you're already enjoying "Dormant Heart". If you're yet to
discover the band "Dormant Heart" is a good startingpoint.
