A new release from Australian melodic metallers Vanishing
Point. I must first and foremost admit that I haven't heard much of
this band since its second record, Tangled In Dream and it's been over
thirteen years from that point. With a more powerful appearance than
what I've heard previously and with a few lineup changes, this unit
now returns with its fifth effort, six and a half years past the latest
deal, The Fourth Season.
The boys from down under play rather traditional based
melodic metal, yet the band utilizes all tools from speedier stuff down
to ballads, and progressive stuff, as well as basically mid-tempo parts
to make this record rather varied. The record has weaving melodies without
standing out as bland or mellow and it features persistent, adequate
solid metal riffs that create more roughness and more pushing and shoving
to ignite this piece and to often come out on top of things. Massaro's
voice is an effective weapon, but somehow I think the remainder of the
instruments are situated in a rather safe position overall, mainly functioning
as complement.
I mostly grow fond of the speedier tracks like for instance
Circle Of Fire. When the frequency of the drums accelerates, although
they are not blasting, and when the guitar jets out riffs to lift the
songs to more aggressive levels, my metal heart indeed beats faster.
I really wish there was more of this matter to help out to take this
record to a higher and definite flourishing state. It's a good record,
no doubt. I'm just looking for that last drop of completeness to fill
the glass to the brim.
