Grindcore from Singapore. No, it's not a jest - although
I have to admit that I reacted when I heard where Wormrot come from.
Preceding record Abuse had some truly marvelous grindcore on it. Dirge
continues on the path laid out on Abuse. The record is the proper length
as far as grindcore is concerned - 19 minutes divided between 24 songs
of the rawest and most chaotic music I've heard in a while.
This is music that Barney Greenway of Napalm Death would
like, I think, because of the punkish feel to it. Add to this a production
far less polished than let's say, Anaal Nathrakh's and you get a record
that is, well, not made up of lullabies.
I am properly impressed mostly by the furious uncompromising
attitude that dominates Dirge. The singing, partly really deep, partly
a panic ridden screamdelivery is gnawing sweetly at the eardrums in
a way that feels totally right. The fact that there's no bass on the
record I hardly think about as the band with Fit on drums and vocals,
Rasyid on guitar and Arif on vocals compensates heavily by playing ferociously
through out the record.
This simply kicks ass! If you're into punky, chaotic,
unpolished meaty grindcore - I strongly advise you to get Dirge. 1,
2, 3, 4, mosh!
