Lennon Murphy, who got some free marketing when she got
sued by John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono for using her birth name as an
artist, is the main woman behind this project. Here she is sided by
Jason Suecof, producer for Trivium, Chimaira, DevilDriver etc.
Looking For Jesus is heavy alternative metal, reminding
a bit of Drain crossed with Evanescence, with soft harmonic vocals.
But on Shadow Never Ending Lennon takes it a step further and bursts
out in deep, almost Angela Gossow-growl-like screaming. Victim combines
the two, and so it goes. Actually, though I like the spirit in the screaming
parts, it works better musically with the soft vocals. Final Words for
example just gets me soar ears. Slightly softer rockers like Nobody,
Hold On and One On One have some good features and tendencies though.
Looking For Jesus is a promising start, which brings you
hopes of something good to come. But song after song passes and finally
you realize in the end that it was the best song. Though it is 13 tracks
the record is less than 40 minutes long. Actually that is the ideal
length for this kind of music (no pun intended). So, to sum up, Lennon
is a true talent and a great, diverse singer. But she needs a bit steadier
material to work with. If it wasn't for the name-thing, would anyone
really had noticed?
