France is famous for an ugly iron tower, protesting farmers
on the freeway and serving snails as food. How can they possibly foster
a brutal thrash scene? But Agressor has been around since the 80s. They
even claim to be the first thrash band from France to release an album
(a split LP with Loudblast called License To Thrash).
Deaththreat is a piece of groovy modern thrash, which
almost makes it death metal. But it suffers from the same sickness as
so many other records in the same genre/genres. It is fun for 15-20
minutes but does not last for three quarters. Aggression works and sells
- to those ones loyal. But not to me if there isn't something else added.
A slightest piece of hook or melody is all I ask for to be on your side.
When Darkness comes closest, with a dark melody and the
vital mix between growls and screams. Warrior Heart lives more on groove
and a simple structure. Last we find the Hellhammer cover Agressor.
This is true old school meaty thrash. It usually works for one song
- and on Deaththreat this is the one
But what takes place there
in between are more or less played for deaf ears.
