Granted, I have not followed Suidakra's whole career,
but I remember and consider Signs For The Fallen (2003) and Emprise
To Avalon (2002) to be highly enjoyable albums with a good portion of
melodic elements and good songwriting. I wondered what happened along
the way.
This is second, to not say third, class rock'n'roll-thrash with only
fragmental glimpses of something interesting, as in for example The
Alliance, Reap The Storm, Strange Perfection. There are many parts that
just fels like their sole purpose are to transport us from A to B and
the vocals don't engage either. Add to that the fact that the production
is without substance and especially the drums are of the cardboard-sounding
type and a bit thin and edgeless.
There are the occasional catchy riff and nice solo part, but that is
far from enough to save this sleeping pill. The best song, and the only
real good one, is the instrumental Dead Man's Reel with a strong irish
approach, which is something that can be spotted here and there around
the album.
There is a hidden track at the end of the album in form of a cover of
Mike Oldfield's Moonlight Shadow but by the time the track appears I
suspect most of you have already pressed stop on your cd player. You
are not missing out on anything anyway, if I put it that way.
