Canada have a tradition of bands producing solid heavy metal but not quite making it big. Of course Anvil would be the prime example. Cauldron plays the same style of meat and potatoes-metal with chugging riffs, high pitch vocals and catchy choruses. That's also kinda the problem, they don't really have anything of their own to add to the legacy of heavy metal and rely very much on things we already heard ages ago.

This is the bands second effort, the first being Chained to the Night (2009), which was a solid album of heavy metal but with some thrashier Megadeth-style riffs thrown in the mix. On this album the band is focusing even more on traditional metal and sometimes even a bit of early speed metal as in All Or Nothing and Rapid City for example. The sound overall is a bit more catchy and "softer" than on their debut.

The production is a bit unusual. The guitars are drenched in a weird fuzzy tone which doesn't help the songs in any way. I like my metal rough but in my opinion this kind of classic heavy metal should be played with a much more cleaner sound. Don't get me wrong, this is a good heavy metal album, it just isn't great. If you are in the mood for some classic heavy metal you should check this out.
