On a pure grindintensity level, Exhale hasn't got any problems convincing me that they know what they are doing. The dominant feature on Blind is speed - if we're not fed pummeling blastbeats, the kick-drums keep churning out those 16th-notes with equal ferocity. I'm also very sweet on the more death oriented singing style favored by Johan Ylestrand (also in excellent Inevitable End), and the more shouted one by lead singer Peter.
Musically Exhale reaches some summits, but as a whole
Blind does not strike bull's eye for me. Best are the songs Egde, Crushed
and very angry Spy Tillbaka, a rage injection lasting 35 seconds, during
which I sit thinking that this is proper grind. Exhale's Blind doesn't
go the distance - there is, for me, something lacking in too many songs
for me to bring out the higher grades.
