Ektomorf's music hasn't undergone some kind of metamorphosis
this time around either, because most of what's included on this new
effort is more or less a resumption of the band's own work. It's heavy
as hell and the album's title really reflects the contents very well.
All songs aren't exactly alike of course, but this record doesn't contain
any greater amounts of variety either and their focus seem to be set
at coming out grating and pulverizing more than anything.
The massive and engrossing riffing indeed make this into
a grinding piece of music. I think that without these heavy guitar parts
this album would have been undistinguished and to some extent rather
pointless actually. The vocals are pretty deep and guttural, aggressive
and mostly a little bit angry, but the capacity and the ability of Farkas'
performance is neither one something that will go down in history as
sprung out of abundant range or talent.
The band is pretty much unable to bring forward any really
memorable, dazzling and remarkable melodies in its heavy music and most
of the time they simply just keep the momentum going, seemingly out
of sheer obstinacy and stubbornness. I can't find more than a few parts
that I become attracted to and it's like I can't get a full grip of
the whole thing really. It's definitely not a crappy release, but since
it can't allure me more than occasionally, I believe that 4 chalices
is a fair rating.
