Mat: Can you first in short tell the readers something of how and when The Storyteller was formed?

  • L-G: The Storyteller was formed in the year of 1995 by L-G Persson and Fredrik Groth. We started as a project concentrating on writing acoustic songs with medieval tunes.

Mat: Has melodic Power Metal been the style since the very beginning or did it start with some other kind of music? If that should be the case, why the (very welcome) change?

  • L-G: Well as I mentioned in the question before we started as a acoustic band, but me and Fredrik have always been fans of heavy metal so after a while we started talking about the idée of re-arrange our acoustic songs and make heavy metal of them and the result was our first demo which later on gave us our record deal with the Swedish label named No Fashion Records/M.N.W Records group.

Mat: According to your latest release Crossroad there are three members in the band and on your web page there are five. Which alternative is the correct one and why the somewhat confusing information?

  • L-G: I'll help you out :) When we recorded Crossroad there was only Me, Fredrik and Martin. Jacob and Janne joined the band just recently.

Mat: There have also been quite some other members in the band over the years. Can you in short tell us why there's been such a turnover?

  • L-G: The are many reasons why we had so many changes over the years but one reason why is because they did not show enough interest in the band.

Mat: Making a living' as a musician seems to work well if you make some crappy hit-list music but since this is definitely NOT your problem: how does this work for you? Do you have other jobs on the side or something?

  • L-G: At the time we all have jobs on the side, but hopefully some day we can work full time as musicians.

Mat: And then to some album questions: My personal opinion is that Crossroad is a better release than your debut in many aspects, but what do you think? What are you especially proud of with Crossroad? Is there anything afterwards you feel you could have done differently that we can expect on up-coming releases?

  • L-G: I'm very glad to hear that you like the album :)
It's hard to point at something that I'm especially proud of . I do think that all of us has improved ourselves on this album and hopefully we will keep on improving ourselves on forthcoming albums. Of corse there's always something's that you feel you could have done different, but at the same time I couldn't be more proud of this album (as well as our first album).

Mat: So far you've recorded your two albums at Studio Fredman. I know that for instance Hammerfall and In Flames have chosen other studios so is this something you might consider doing in the future too or is it too early to say?

  • L-G: At the moment we have no plans on recording anywhere else but Studio Fredman, mainly because we feel that Studio Fredman is by far the best studio in Sweden and the work that comes from that studio is absolutely great.
One more important reason is because we all feel that Fredrik Nordström (our producer) is great to work with, so there is no reason to break up a winning team:)

Mat: How does the touring plans look for the moment? Are there any abroad live-gigs planned and can we expect your appearance on any of the summer-festivals?

  • L-G: All I can say is that there are many things planned ahead. Maybe there will be a European tour this fall, but that's for early to tell. Ask me in a couple of month :)

Mat: And finally - any words of wisdom or funny facts about the nearest future
you want to share with the readers?

  • L-G: Keep your eyes open and hopefully we will se you at a tour real soon. Check out website at: http://welcome.to/storyteller
