Here we have the second album from the young Swedish band
Assailant. A band that feature the youngest of the Norberg brothers
(Nocturnal Rites, Savage Circus, Persuader), Oskar, on guitar. The music
sounds like a cross between, surprise surprise, Nocturnal Rites and
In Flames even though those two bands are in a league above Assailant
at the moment. There are plenty of well written songs on here and the
production is excellent. Then why isn't the grade higher for the album
you might ask yourself. Well, the answer to that are the vocals of Peter
Sundquist. I'm not that fond of them, the constant shifting between
clean and harsh vocals works just fine with these songs but still
there's something I don't like about it. It's just hard to pinpoint
out the exact thing that bugs me.
However, if you're a fan of Nocturnal Rites and can stand
vocals in the vein of In Flames you'll have to check this album out
and make up your own mind about it. It's well worth the effort and who
knows. You might like the vocals a lot more than I do.
