A best of release spanning through the German metal queen's
whole career? Hardly. This is a compilation of Doro's time with AFM
Records, so most of the material is taken from the two albums Warrior
Soul and Fear No Evil, including all the bonus tracks.
Also present on this double CD collection are b-sides
from EPs, a rather stinky recording of Judas Priest's Breaking The Law,
the re-recorded, and not so good, 2007 version of Warlock's All We Are,
as well as songs recorded with The Classic Night Orchestra, whose only
purpose seemed to be to make the songs lose heaviness, tempo and feeling.
A document of something different, yet more cool than good.
The album has many good songs, but is worth buying? Well,
if you already own her two latest studio releases, I think not, unless
you want to complete your collection. If you never heard her music before,
you might as well start with this, because this is what Doro have sounded
like in recent years, and I would be surprised if her new album, coming
this fall, would sound significantly different.
Lastly, I got to hand out some credit to whoever designed
the front cover. I'm just glad we don't have a cartoon like Doro, dressed
in a super action hero metal outfit, looking like twenty again. Sure,
she has thoroughly passed through Photoshop, but what haven't these
days?
