When Sister Sin from Gothenburg, Sweden, released their debut Switchblade Serenades in 2008, I found it quite good and it has found its way to my cd player frequently since. They brought forward a fresh sounding sort of heavy, classic and very catchy straight metal with a raw and dirty touch over it.

It's now time for the follow up and I feel they have managed to fine tune things and simply brought it up yet a notch, if ever so small. Already after the debut they did extensive tours with Motörhead and Arch Enemy among others. With this album they should have no problem conquering even more territories.

The formula is pretty identical this time around; riff based, heavy and classic metal with consistently catchy and melodic verses and choruses. The pace is high and from time to time they are balancing on a punk edge, but their strong emphasis on melodies and catchiness never let the raw power stand behind.

What really lifts the album, or rather the whole band, is the marvellous vocals by Liv. They fit absolutely perfect to the music and bring everything just above the last step where it gets really great. While the music itself is not that original, her voice makes it feel fresh and interesting enough to stick out quite well, and it's even better here than on the debut album.

They don't seem to have run out of adrenaline the past years since you will find an abundance of pumping and memorable rhythms and hooks which warrant a listening session that makes you feel good and makes your fist want to fly high. You can hear how much she, and the rest of the band, sincerely believe themselves that they are playing the best possible music on earth and at least while listening to them you are sometimes willing to second that.

The only downside, some might find, on this album is really that most of the songs are forged from the same formula as the last time and there is not much variation. On the other hand, all the individual songs are almost without exceptions small pearls and the album as a whole is very infectious. This is as of now a band that is one of the highest on my list over ones I wish to see live. I hope for an opportunity very soon, since I believe it's a perfect recipe for a great night out.
