I can't think of any genre so perfectly named as grind core. Napalm Death, who get some credit for being fathers to this kind of music, actually grinds your brain with their instruments. They definitely still stay firmly true to their roots. If you are the original, you don't have to sell out to be number one!

For a novice like me it takes a few listenings before you can pick out the great music within all the noise. Still you are kind of mashed after 15 tracks. It's not a record you put on constant replay, so to say. What about individual tracks then? Well, it is kind of hard to separate them from the whole picture sometimes. Most of them are about three minutes long and in a tempo you can call fast… It is extreme, angry and intense. My immediate favorites are the more groovy songs like The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code and Instruments Of Persuasion. Here and there you can find progressive traits in 'longer' tracks like The Great And The Good and All Hail The Grey Dawn. The best track in my opinion is the 'breathing pause' Morale. In slower, more humane tempo and with riffs you actually can manage to catch, it sets itself rather beautiful in the context.

I will probably give Napalm Death a chance to impress me at this summer's Sweden Rock Festival. Until then, I will remain a bit skeptic to the extremeness of this music. Nevertheless I confess to their rightful place in music history and will not doubt that the fans will be pleased (I hate that last phrase, but sometimes it serves it's purpose).
