Even though I was a dedicated death metal fan in my early years, between 1985-1995, I have to say that the musical value was slightly overrated and when looking back on it all there is not much that still stands as strong as it appeared back than.

Bolt Thrower is an exception - this is damn good death metal.

Seldom before or after has a band managed to make their music sound so vital and inspiring with so few chords. The riffs are an orgy in utter and complete bonecrushing style, and combined with the mighty Karl Willet's vocals we have a winner. The best ingredients are that it's so damn heavy, and still melodic touches to the riffs with battering, galloping bassdrums.

Where most bands back in the days did their best to overcome each other in terms of fastness, bloodyness, loudness - Bolt Thrower let the riffs talk, and you are in for a real treat if you like murdering, crushing riffs that flow amazing smothly forward with lovely growling that has class.

This is death metal at it's best, and will stand tall along with the best of other types of metal until the end of time. This is already a classic and a milestone, and headbanging friendly is just the first name....
