Are you a sucker for cheesy sing-a-long choruses that
stick in your head at first listen? Well, look no further, Last Autumn's
Dream has arrived for your pleasure. This is actually the third album
from these melodic rocksters. On the debut album Ian Haugland, Mic Michaeli
and John Levén from Europe (the band, that is
) participated.
When the reunion of Europe was a fact they however left the band but
the replacements wasn't rookies so to speak. Andy Malecek (Fair Warning),
Mikael Erlandsson, Marcel Jacob (Talisman) och Jamie Borger (Talisman,
Treat) is nothing but a bunch of well respected musicians with a lot
of experience in these matters. The main song writer Micke Erlandsson
has contributed with songs in the Swedish qualification for the Europan
Song Contest, a fact that also can be heard on Saturn Skyline considering
the focus on strong and addictive choruses.
The cheese-factor on Saturn Skyline is extremely high
and the whole album is an act of balance but in the end the guys manage
to make me smile rather than throw up, even if a tiny nauseous feeling
can be sensed on a couple of songs. Things would most definitely be
better with a little more edge and heaviness but I must say that I am
quite impressed over the number of great choruses the album is in possession
of. The album is quite even but there is one track that sticks out more
than the others since the up tempo rocker Pages is absolutely brilliant.
More songs like that next time and the number of chalices will without
a doubt increase. If you're only into Metal in different shapes: stay
away! If you are a fan of melodic rock with catchy melodies: buy!
