You know, I laid my hands on Paradox's latest offering quite some time ago, because on the surface this looked like the proverbial shit; thrash metal from Germany.

Sadly, "Riot Squad" is a really boring record - but in an effort to at really give these guys a decent chance I have listened to the record quite a number of times. Every day on my way to work for three weeks, and one time at home per day. I listened to it prior to sitting down and beginning this review - but it simply doesn't do the trick for me. By song number four I'm totally bored out of my skull and have to switch over to Kreator for one song before I resume listening to "Riot Squad".

It's not that these guys doesn't know how to churn out a good tune to demonstrate their capabilities as musicians - but the songs, lord almighty, are so not up to par in my book. And when Charly Steinhauer opens his mouth and unleashes a voice by far too clean to be singing this kind of music I simply give up.

Summary

3 chalices of 10 - Martin

Ah c'mon now, this is not being fair to those of us who have been into Paradox ever since the mid-'80s. I think the new album is quite thrashy, rather technical, and definitely better than 'Collision Course'. After all that Charly Steinhauer has been through, physically, mentally, psychologically, I am glad to see that he can still write riffs which remind me of the glory days! //Michael the MettleAngel (6,5 of 10)
