My respect for Dave Grohl keeps on growing with everything he does, from Nirvana to Foo Fighters to Queens Of The Stone Age, his small involvement in Tenacious D and now with Probot. The work of Probot is Dave's tribute to the bands he grew up with and was influenced by at that time, which of many hails from the underground scene from that era. And what better way to pay tribute to your heroes than to have them sing on your album, all music written by Dave and sent out to his "heroes" for them to lay down the vocals, and apart from some additional guests playing Dave does all the playing by himself

Music not that intriguing and fascinating, it is simply just damn good and solid heavy metal that in most cases fits the vocalists perfectly with a style similar to there own bands. Shake Your Blood with Lemmy on vocals and bass is more or less a standard Motörhead track, with his style of bassplaying and the way Dave Grohl hammers the drums he does you could easily fool people into believing it actually is a Motörhead song. Max Cavalera brings Red War to life and the likeness and Dave's inspiration from Sepultura can in no way be missed with the rhythmic music and the aggressive style. Other highlights are the hardcore sounding Access Babylon with Mike Dean (Corrosion Of Conformity), the faster Centuries of Sin with Cronos from legendary Venom and the heavy groove with Trouble vocalist Eric Wagner in My Tortured Soul. In fact the only two tracks I don't like is Ice Cold Man and Sweet Dreams and mostly because im not that bigger fan of neither Cathedral or King Diamond and that is how the music goes in those two tracks. Despite the fact that Sweet Dreams was originally written along with My Tortured Soul for Ozzy Osbourne's album Down To Earth but was rejected.

Dave Grohl is a multitalented musician with impressive writing skills, he has been delivering some good songs with Foo Fighters and it gets even better at some points here, at least with Probot it is pure heavy metal, it gets obvious that Probot is made with a great deal of passion from Grohl as it is this kind of music that has shaped him as a musician. That he is a killer drummer is hardly any secret but I had no idea of that he could handle all other instruments so greatly as well.

The album is recorded over a period of time and it loses the feeling of being complete , it is a bit uneven and lacks the impression of a wholeness but I am nevertheless impressed by the gang that he has managed to sum up to participate, and I recommend those of you that are not sure on who all these vocalists are to check out the homepage for Probot where you can find bios on them all.
And what would an album be without a hidden bonus track?, after some minutes of silence a track that I guess could be named I am the Warlock (really not sure about the title or if it is a covertrack that I should know about) appears with Jack Black (Tenacious D) on vocals, had to knew before I could tell it was him, with its dirty sound and his singing it almost sound like a slow and heavy Entombed track mixed with a little Queens Of The Stone Age and it wouldn't surprise me if Josh Homme plays on it as well.
