Background history, sound, members, previously released albums - everything of this is needless when it comes to starting up a Motörhead review. I am simply going to focus on one thing: are the new songs any good? They are indeed, but after two great albums in a row, Inferno (2004) and Kiss Of Death (2006), this one feels a bit weak in comparison. It is not even close to the intensity and rawness of Inferno, not to mention song quality, but somewhat close to Kiss Of Death in terms of songs and production but still a bit behind.

The album starts up decent and solidly with three standard and adequate Motörhead songs in midtempo with Teach You How To Sing The Blues as the best one of that block. What follows after that is the ace of the album, Rock Out. A fast and short smoker where Lemmy delivers the already classic line "Rock out... with your cock out... " as being the most natural thing in the world. A future live favourite for sure.

After that the album dips a bit with some slower, and more bluesy and anonymous tracks, One Short Life and English Rose, which are flanking the more uptempo Buried Alive which hits you where it should. Back On The Chain is a groovy one with a more melodic refrain and works pretty well, whereas Heroes takes the tempo down again and also have a somewhat catchy refrain but this is the song you probably remember the least after a spin of the album.

The closing ones Time Is Right and The Thousand Names Of God both hold the banner high with good pumping tempo, recognisable and classic Motörhead structure, and especially the latter brings everything home safe and sound. Perhaps a bit too safe, though.

A standard Motörhead album with absolutely nothing new. If you love Motörhead, you'll love this. Just be prepared for an album not as vital and intense as the two previous ones.
