Ice-T and his Body Count troop deliver pretty much what's
expected. It's groovy heavy metal based on hip hop or rap elements,
or whatever's preferred to name it. It includes highly explicit lyrics
and this is definitely nothing you should listen to if you can't stand
political incorrectness and dirty language that contains several Motherfucker,
Ho, Bitch, Fuck and such words. Your parents won't probably encourage
you guys playing this record with fully open windows at max volume to
the entire neighborhood.
Body Count's ability to connect two completely different
types of music is nothing but exceptional and remarkable. As a near
total headbanger, I somehow am able to extract things to relate to and
when he is given the room, Ernie C's lead guitar is cool and relevant.
Ice-T's lyrics deal with a lot of today's problems and situations that
man has a tough time to overcome. I know it's juvenile, but I love the
accurate lyrics in Institutionalized 2014, which is sort of a cover
version of Suicidal Tendencies' old tune, but with almost completely
newly written lyrical content.
Manslaughter seems in total a little old fashioned and
the lion's share of this material could might as well have been written
over two decades ago and the album's overall sound also originates from
that period, even if it's naturally a little cleaner at this point.
I would be exaggerating if I told you that this record will blow you
away, but it truly has its moments of impact though. It's in a sense
intense, resolute and straightforward and I believe that fans to this
band won't have any trouble digging this one.
