Sepultura, that is a name that deserve some respect. This band has been around for over twenty years and their place in the history of metal is definite as being the first band from South America to make an impact on the metal world. With this full-packed live album they cover all of their past while including songs representing all their albums from Bestial Devastation (1984) on to Roorback (2003). Twenty years of history all cranked up from one great concert and to my great delight Chaos AD is the album that is most represented on Live In São Paulo.

I have never really followed Sepultura that closely and since Max Cavalera left I haven't followed them at all, perhaps that wasn't the wisest choice? Sepultura show that they are still to be reckoned with since they have a lot of great songs, and the selection on this live album seems to be really good. The sound on the album is good with the live feeling kept intact, and the audience seems to have been going crazy during this concert. By listening to both the band and the audience this surely was a concert worth to save for the after world with a live release, although the sound of the audience are put too low in the mix.

Derrick Green handles the songs from the time before his entrance in Sepultura with respect and shows that he is very well capable of delivering the old stuff, even if I prefer Max's voice on the older songs. All of the guys in Sepultura seem to have been driven themselves to the edge in order to deliver a great concert and it sounds as if they succeeded. The band appears to be really tight and the performance sounds to be explosive.

There is not much to complain about really, for me that are not a die hard Sepultura fan I get a good retrospective on their career. But when listening to Sepultura for over an hour straight it can tend to sound a bit monotonous and it is easy to overdose, one album at the time is enough for me. Live In São Paulo is also released as a DVD and if you are a big Sepultura fan I think it is a safe buy, at least if you should judge by the sound of the album.
