I was actually full of expectations when I sat down to listen to Cannibal Corpse's new release Kill. A classical band in its genre that I haven't listened to for years. Therefore one can say that it was time to set a foot on some unconquered land. There must be some reason why they've stayed on the underground top for so many years. But this was a mistake. I know that there is some difference between wanting to discover new styles of music for your own sake and to do reviews of music that is outside your normal sphere of interest. But this piece landed on my table, so here it is…

I'm not sensitive in any way, musically. But I am demanding. I crave some kind of melody, or at least some kind of thought behind the compositions. Just pure aggression will not do it for me. Therefore I cannot find Kill anything other than impossible to listen to, voluntarily. It is raw, brutal, fast, simple… and everything sounds exactly the same. No rememberable riffs, no song melodies, no choruses, no tempo changes, no variation at all. This is just not my thing. But how hard I am trying to be open-minded and objective, I cannot see why anyone should take this into their record collection. Fans might disagree, but I consider this as a potential tool for pure torture.
