I rarely become overly impressed by the demo-releases
that are sent to me, but Gallow's End is an exception. The band is run
by the multi-talented musician Thord Klarström, who's not only
the song-writer, lead guitarist and vocalist - he has also produced
and mixed these three songs.
Gallow's End hardly make any attempts to break any new
musical ground on this release, instead they concentrate on doing what
they do best, playing fast-paced heavy metal that mostly traces back
to the 80s but also the 70s. Klarström's vocals are strong throughout
the record but perhaps a bit too common among this type of metal to
stand out as something you remember afterwards. But his vocals do fit
rather nicely together with the nimble and catchy metal-cuts that he
has composed - songs that have plenty of neat solos and also choruses
that are easy to take a liking to.
While the opener The Unborne Flag would be my definite
pick of the demo, the other two songs are certainly not bad by any means,
quite the contrary. If Gallow's End were able to produce a full-length
album with equally high quality in the future, I would become even more
impressed.
