Decoy is the collaboration between songwriter and guitarist Torben Enevoldsen (Section A, Fatal Force) and singer Peter Sundell (Ex-Grand Illusion). If you have heard what these guys have produced before you certainly won't be surprised of what Decoy has to offer. Torben is mostly known for his work in Section A and you can hear a lot of that specific band in Decoy as well. However, since vocalist Peter Sundell hails from the boundaries of AOR he has flavoured the progressive/melodic metal brought by Torben with extremely accessible vocal melodies and therefore created something slightly different from their previous works. It's not original at all but if you ask me that's not the biggest issue anyway, the song writing and performance is much more important. Think Cloudscape without the progressiveness and a drop of AOR and you might get a picture of the sonic landscapes of Decoy.

The album opens quite impressive with two superb melodic metal tracks. Divided is heavy with stomping riffs and a chorus that is very efficient. The title track up next is even better and the peak of the album. The song has a driven riff, melodic vocals all the way and a chorus that you can't get rid of. Another great track worth mentioning is Heavy Metal Thunder which sounds exactly as the title implies and literally makes your head bang. The second half of the album however does not live up to the standards of the first half. The melodies are no way near as inspired and the tempo is much slower. It's quite obvious that the heavier songs are far superior the softer ones and even if I normally like diversity I would have preferred a concentration on the heavier stuff this time around. Call Of The Wild is in possession of big highlights but in total it's far too uneven to fully satisfy me.
