The time has come for Pump's second album, the new band of former Brainstorm vocalist Marcus Jürgens. Since the debut they have mostly been out touring, supporting bands like Axel Rudi Pell and Queensrÿche. The band also has been quite busy with several legal problems with their old label, which should explain the title Breakdown To Breakthrough, problems that has been solved by now.

It's quite obvious that Pump has picked influences from the 80's and you can safely say that they belong to the guitar driven melodic hard rock genre. The emphasis is set on groovy riffs and catchy melodies. Tracks like the up tempo rocker Blood On The Blade, the catchy How Does It Feel? and the guitar driven and rhythmical Alright Now are quite enjoyable for the moment. The overall feeling though is that the melodies don't reach a higher level than average at its best and this affects the final judgement. I am not overly impressed by Marcus Jürgens vocals either which I believe lacks inevitable range and diversity.

Breakdown To Breakthrough offers nothing groundbreaking at all and it is destined to collect dust in my shelf. Just a decent record but if you are a die-hard fan of the genre it might be worth checking out anyway. I advise you to listen before invest though.
